Product Spotlight: Lutron Sivoia Wireless Shades

January 27th, 2012

Lutron Wireless Shades

Motorized shades have always been a great convenience for many of our customers.  Besides assisting with lighting controls in a room, they help support thermal management, reduce utility bills, and most are easily controlled by automation systems.
Interest in motorized shades has always been high but the need to run power and automation lines to each motor has always been a major cost factor and it usually meant cutting a lot of holes in the drywall. Most people would not even consider motorized shades once they learned of the wiring requirements unless the cables were already run during the construction of the home.

Fortunately, Lutron recently released a wireless solution which operates on batteries available at the local hardware store. At first we were speculative of the battery powered shades.  To be honest, we laughed at the idea of replacing batteries for shades, but Lutron claims that the shades will operate for about three years with six D cell batteries.  Though the motors are audible, they are still very quiet and far from annoying.

The standard shades are limited to a single cell and room darkening designs with limited color selections.  The possibilities don’t end there as many custom options are available as well.  Custom options would include a larger color selection and double cell shade designs.  Lutron also offers a larger variety of fabric materials when selecting custom shades.  We liked how there aren’t any typically visible cords or strings making for a very clean look.

For an integration company, the most important feature is that it plays well with automation systems.  It works great when combined with Lutron whole home systems which, in turn, integrate well into other automation systems.  An automation system is not required to operate these binds and can be controlled by a remote like the one shown on the right.

At Sight and Sound Systems, we highly recommend this product and we welcome visitors to come see a demo at our showroom.

Is your TV ready for the Big Game?

October 5th, 2010

Football season is here and we know just what you are looking for…..a big screen TV. Don’t be caught watching the games on just an ordinary TV when you could be watching them on an extraordinary one.  HDTV’s have a ton of great features that make them ideal for watching any type of sports.  For example, an LCD with a higher refresh rate will optimize how you see fast motion – especially important for passes, returns, and field goals – think 120 or 240Hz.  Many also offer Picture in Picture – so you can catch multiple games at once and not miss a thing.  Many models also have internet connectivity – great for accessing up-to-the-minute stats and following your fantasy league.

Don’t miss the opportunity to see your favorite teams in high-def.  But which is the better way to go: Plasma or LCD?  Ask one of our experienced sales consultants about the screen size, importance of viewing distances and angles, and all the other innovative features that will enhance your Football experience.  Give us a call at (703) 802-6443 or stop by to speak with one of our sales consultants to see what they think is best for you!

Security Systems protect against burglary, fire and…floods?

August 13th, 2010

Security_Systems_protect_against_burglary

Over the years most homeowners can expect to experience at least one form of water damage to their home. It could be their washing machine hose that splits, their pipes that freeze and burst, the dishwasher that leaks, toilet that overflows, or water heater that fails.  Any one of these conditions can lead to expensive property damage, and destruction of personal belongings that are often irreplaceable.  A water sensor spares you the headaches of water leaks that go undetected for hours and even days. The sensor sounds an environmental alarm when it detects water.

Today’s security systems are capable of monitoring much more than just intrusion.  Detection devices like motion detectors, door/window contacts, glass breaks, Water sensors, temperature sensors and many other devices can be installed and linked to a remote monitoring centre that protects homes 24 hours a day.

A water moisture sensor added to your security system can detect and immediately report problems to the monitoring company which in turn notifies you by phone.  Give us a call at (703) 802-6443 or stop by to speak with one of our sales consultants to see what they think is best for you!

Think Green

May 28th, 2010

Television screens are getting bigger, sharper and thinner every year. While the action on the screen looks better than ever, the effect on your electric bill can be downright scary. Using less energy preserves energy resources and helps reduce the risks of global warming while saving money on energy bills. Let us help you save energy and money, while protecting the environment. You get all of the features and content you desire, while using less energy.

How is Efficiency Measured in Televisions:
Efficiency can be measured by the power the product uses when on, but just as important (as with electronics), the power the product uses when off, or in standby mode. Energy Vampire’s are used to describe the leeching of energy by products that are turned off. Television power costs can vary from model to model and does not necessarily depend on screen size. LCD televisions are usually more efficient than Plasma TVs or traditional Tube style TVs, but not always.

Energy Efficient Televisions:
Many companies are thinking green and trying to help the environment. LG, Mitsubishi, Samsung, Toshiba, and Panasonic are just a few. As consumers become more energy conscious, TV makers are responding with innovative, energy-saving designs.

Let us help you find the right TV. Give us a call at (703) 802-6443 or stop by to speak with one of our sales consultants to see what they think is best for you!
